March 10, 2010 The Slovak Jewish Heritage Route inaugurates the 24th site. Following an interesting seminar organized by Bardejov civic activists Pavol and Peter Hudak with support of the Bardejov Municipality, Kosice Rabbi Yossi Steiner and Peter Hudak unveiled the Route plaque on the facade of the historic mikvah building.To view the local TV spot (in Slovak) click at powercore.btsbj.sk/~videoarchiv/spravodajstvo/script/761.php November 27, 2009 The Jewish Community of Bratislava completed another stage of the New Orthodox cemetery chapel restoration. The precious building of the cemetery chapel constructed in 1929 has now fully refurbished interiors in the original coloring. Designed by two Jewish architects who perished in the Holocaust, Fridrich Weinwurm and Ignac Vecsei, the building is an important milestone in the modern Slovak architecture. The site is still used for the original purpose. The major restoration stage, when the exterior and surroundings will be refurbished, expects the site owner in 2010. The Slovak Jewish Heritage Center will be happy to match any interested donor to the project with the Jewish Community office. October 18, 2009 The Chatam Sofer Memorial has been recently listed by the prominent Bratislava online travel resource - Bratislava.Travel as one of the top ten sites to visit in the city. Jewish monuments gradually become recognized and promoted as an important part of multicultural heritage of Slovakia. October 12, 2009 Slovak Jewish Heritage will be presented at the Donumenta festival in Regensburg, Germany. An annual cultural festival organized in the Bavarian city presents every year another country from the Danube Region. This year is dedicated to Slovakia and the Slovak Jewish Heritage Center presents a photographic exhibition of Jewish monuments in Slovakia. The exhibition, which will be a unique opportunity for the German public to learn about precious heritage of Slovakia, will be opened by a presentation of the Center's director, Dr Maroš Borský. The recently completed Route, which has 25 partner sites in all regions of Slovakia, is featured in the comprehensive guidebook annually published by the Slovak Spectator - Slovakia's only English-language weekly.
